The OpenQ team has deep technical expertise in developing enterprise software and internet applications, industry experience selling to and serving top global regulated organizations, and prior business start-up experience at a venture capital firm and as founding executives at a successful software and services organization that grew to over $150 million in annual revenues.


Jim Zuffoletti
Mr. Zuffoletti has been a founder of start-up organizations as both an entrepreneur and an intrapreneur for the past twenty years. As President of OpenQ he has been a catalyst for determining the company’s strategic direction and for forging critical relationships with customers in the heavily regulated industry segments who are looking to build and secure their social networks. He is also responsible for customer relationships and results. Prior to founding OpenQ, Mr. Zuffoletti was a founder of FreeMarkets, Inc., a pioneering e-business company. While at FreeMarkets, Jim served in a number of senior leadership capacities including sales leadership and general management. Before FreeMarkets, Mr. Zuffoletti started his career at GE in a variety of positions in finance and business development. Mr. Zuffoletti holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Amherst College and holds an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.
Otavio Freire
CTO and Co-Founder
Over the past 18 years Otavio Freire has been serving the life sciences and healthcare industry and over the past twelve as a founder and board member of OpenQ. Otavio has been responsible for the development, methodology and innovation for Engage solutions and has consulted with companies such as Pfizer, Merck, Abbvie, Medtronic, MSKCC and CVS among others. Prior to founding OpenQ, Otavio pioneered a number of innovative content solutions for the life-sciences industry and for communicating with healthcare providers including a digital asset management communication platform among other novel solutions. Otavio’s track record in the industry matches his reputation of collaborating closely with customers to create effective and practical solutions that meet their needs. Otavio’s expertise spans software development, social network analysis, customer relationship management systems, content management technologies, and social media. Otavio is a Visiting Scholar at the School of Engineering at the University of Virginia and a Guest Lecturer at the Darden Business School. He holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden Business School and an MS in Information Systems from Bowie State University where he graduated top of his class and an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil.


Dr. Emily C. Whipple, PhD, MBA 
Vice President and Medical Director
Dr. Whipple is responsible for the leadership of OpenQ’s data services group which provides expert identification, profiling, and screening services. In her role she manages the day to day operations of the data services group, production planning and execution, and new associate onboarding. Dr. Whipple was instrumental in the creation and development of the OpenQ Data Services group where, over the last nine years, she has seen the organization grow from an early stage company to a venture-backed organization. In her tenure at OpenQ Dr. Whipple has managed a variety of expert profiling, identification and analytics projects in nearly every therapeutic area and disease state, where she continues to refine processes, improve productivity, and develop new products. Dr. Whipple received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Cornell University and an MS and PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Genetics from the University of Virginia. She also holds an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.
